Total Body Irradiation (TBI)
Special Interest Group

The ANZTCT TBISIG brings together physicists, radiation and medical oncologists, and radiation therapists across Australia and New Zealand who specialize in Total Body Irradiation (TBI). With only 18 clinics currently delivering this niche technique in ANZ, our group provides a dedicated forum to share knowledge, collaborate on ideas and research, and advocate for evidence-based, high-quality patient care.

Total Body Irradiation

  • can be part of the preparatory regimen prior to transplant
  • can be ablative (>8 Gy) or reduced intensity (2-5 Gy)
  • can cause early and late toxicity
  • can be done using Large Open Fields or modulated techniques
  • modulated techniques can reduce the doses to the lungs, kidneys and other organs
